Jackie Harvel, LCPC
Adults, Couples, Marriage
Jackie Harvel, LCPC, is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and certified EMDR therapist working in the St. Charles office. Jackie has years of experience in community settings and private practice working with couples and adults with (complex) trauma, attachment issues, relational struggles, depression and anxiety. “I aim to provide a safe space for clients to explore and heal from past traumas and learn to cope with life’s stressors, improve relationships, and feel empowered to take control over their life and find peace.”
As a double master’s degree graduate in Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Jackie understands the importance of educating clients about mental health and brain functioning in order to find the most beneficial therapeutic approaches for treatment. “Being able to understand how the brain is affected by trauma allows clients to understand why they think, feel, and behave in the ways they do.”
Therapeutic Style
Jackie uses an attachment focused approach, utilizing Ego State therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and solution-focused techniques. She is certified in eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and Gottman method for couples. She is a Certified Complex Trauma Professional and a Certified Clinical Mental Health Professional.
Couples
Working with couples starts with taking a look at each individual’s contribution to what has gone wrong and what changes they are willing to make to repair and rebuild the relationship. “I believe that every relationship can be repaired with accountability, forgiveness, open and honest communication, and commitment to making changes that will benefit themselves and the relationship. Being able to talk about the hard, uncomfortable things is the only way to truly understand one another and be able to rebuild what has been broken.”
