Karen A. Baker, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist in the St. Charles office, is experienced at developing effective therapeutic relationships with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Baker earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago.
“I understand that people are facing many difficult situations presenting challenges in today’s society. Individuals oftentimes seek therapy because they need help, understanding, and hope for a resolution. I believe in every situation there is always hope.”
With an integrative approach to therapy, Dr. Baker employs techniques from her training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, emotion regulation, skills training, family systems, and emotion-focused interventions. She is also informed in dialectic behavior therapy (DBT). When appropriate and desired by the client, Dr. Baker also incorporates a holistic framework to her client interactions.
“Many children and adolescents struggle with issues today because they have not yet developed and mastered the skills necessary to be successful in all aspects of their lives. Helping children, adolescents and families identify choices and learn new ways of responding to and approaching situations is one of my strengths. I believe that if there are issues, there will also be opportunities for change and choices for resolution.”
